The annual production of lumber in the United States is affected only slightly by the foreign trade in this commodity. While the ex ports have for many years formed only a relatively small percentage of the total production, being in 1870, per cent; in 1880, per cent; in 1890, 5 per cent; in 1900, per cent; and in 1910, per cent, it is noteworthy that a steady increase during the past three years has occurred. In 1910 the exports of sawmill products reported in board measure amounted to feet, valued at in 1911, to feet, valued at and in 1912, to feet, valued at The lead ing countries to which lumber is exported from the United States are Canada, the United Kingdom, Argentina, Australia, Netherlands. Germany, Mexico, Cuba, Belgium, and France.

The imports of lumber and other mill products reported in board measure are much smaller than the exports.
